RACE FOR CHARITY
The 7 Rocky River Run (in Rockhampton, QLD) raises funds to address youth mental health issues and the prevention of youth suicide. It also supports young families that need to travel to Brisbane for lifesaving surgery and treatment that is not available in Central Queensland.
WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED
OUR CHARITY PARTNERS OF CHOICE ARE:
R U OK? is a suicide prevention charity that aims to start life-changing conversations and create a more connected world. Its mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully communicate with the people around them and support those struggling with life. This is of particular importance in Central Queensland – an area that has faced a tragic and alarming increase in youth suicide. Suicide is preventable and there are warning signs around it. We believe that the work R U OK? does to raise awareness, reduce the stigma and create an open dialogue is extremely important. It all starts with the simple question of: “Are you okay?”
Ronald McDonald House is an independent charity helping families of seriously ill children. Its purpose is to help keep everyone together and close to much needed, often specialised care – offering the support group a “home away from home.” It provides for families by helping to ease the burden of dealing with practicalities like accommodation. In a country as big as Australia, where this care may be far away, this can be a critical, overlooked service. There are now 16 Ronald McDonald Houses in Australia and more than 360 houses worldwide.
We’ve also partnered with Everydayhero to let our race participants raise money for their charities of choice. Please consider supporting your friends, colleagues and other runners in their fundraising goals for great, worthwhile causes.
Now in its 13th year, the 7 Rocky River Run has been able to contribute over $280,000 in charitable donations. We would like to thank everyone that has made this event possible and has helped it grow, year after year. We are proud to be a major fundraising event that attracts tourists and adds millions of dollars of economic value into the Rockhampton community.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2020 edition of the 7 Rocky River Run on Sunday, May 24th!
